Semarang – The Doctoral Program in Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Diponegoro (FEB UNDIP), once again held a Doctoral Dissertation Defense as part of its commitment to producing graduates who contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the resolution of regional economic development challenges. On this occasion, Asih Kusuma Wijayanti successfully defended her dissertation entitled:
“Spatial Spillover of Growth Centers and the Regional Expansion of East Kalimantan Province.”
The dissertation examines the phenomenon of spatial spillovers resulting from the presence of economic growth centers and the regional expansion of East Kalimantan Province. The study aims to analyze how economic activities in one region influence neighboring areas through economic growth, equitable development, and improvements in community welfare.
By employing a regional economics perspective and spatial analysis, the research provides valuable insights into interregional linkages in the development process. The findings are expected to serve as important references for both the central and regional governments in formulating more integrated, equitable, and sustainable development policies, particularly in East Kalimantan, which plays a strategic role in Indonesia’s national development.
Throughout the dissertation process, Asih Kusuma Wijayanti received academic supervision from Prof. Dr. Fransiscus Xaverius Sugiyanto, M.S. as Promotor (Principal Supervisor) and Prof. Firmansyah, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D. as Co-Promotor (Co-Supervisor). Their guidance and academic mentorship provided a strong foundation for the successful completion of a high-quality and policy-relevant dissertation.
The doctoral dissertation defense was conducted in a productive and intellectually engaging academic atmosphere. The doctoral candidate presented her research findings comprehensively and responded to questions, comments, and constructive feedback from the examination committee.
